I have been told that Mary's cell phone camera does not do it justice, and that it is nearly black all the way around. |
On Tuesday, Mary and I had a 2 hour phone conversation in which we hashed out my saddle fitting problems: current saddle's flap is no longer appropriate, horse and rider are collectively unique sizes, no money for custom/new right now. Our final solution was for me to buy something cheap but with resale value with a forward flap now (Circuit, HDR, etc) and start saving for a custom CWD simultaneously, with the goal of buying custom/new in a year or two.
Then.
On Thursday.
I get this text: "So...Um...I just had an interesting saddle development. In your and Connor's exact size."
Tell me more.
She had sold a new CWD that day to a family that didn't want the old one anymore, and would be trading in their old one in January when the new one came in.
16.5" seat. Wide tree. Pro panels. Short flap, forward flap. Shoulder opening cut for a laidback shouldered dude. Actually, it was owned by a small person/child and built for riding ponies. "Unicorn saddles," they call them in the saddle industry. Finding everything you want in a used saddle.
With the discount, it's also at an unheard of price for something with pro panels. I have three months to sell my saddle and other tack, and ask for saddle money for a Christmas present. Ready, go!
(Who wants to order some saddle fund homemade sea salt caramels?!)
That is crazy!!! So exciting, hope it fits you both!
ReplyDeleteMary assures me that it will, and I trust her, being brilliant at saddle fitting and having ridden Connor many times. My concern is mostly tree width, but she says if it is too narrow we can send it to France and get that taken care of, so woo hoo!
DeleteThat's so great! How lucky could you get? I do love some sea salt caramel and am way too lazy to make them myself....
ReplyDeleteUndeservedly lucky, that's for sure, but I am definitely ready to put the saddle fitting adventures behind us. I've done my time when he was growing a tree size every 6 months for a while!
DeleteI have my "unicorn" used CWD too and I really love it. Also with pro panels!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Do you like the pro panels?
DeleteWoohoo!!! Joining the CWD club :)
ReplyDeleteI'll buy caramels!!!
Yeah!! All I really want is one of those red saddle covers, really. ;-)
DeleteBeautiful!! I need to make friends with Auntie Mary.
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful!! What a great (after) Christmas gift!
ReplyDeleteLucky! :) Looks like a beauty!
ReplyDeleteI would love to order some caramels! And yay for finding a great saddle!
ReplyDeleteYes, post info about the caramels, I'm sure a bunch of us would pitch in and help with saddle funds!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
So exciting! And, yum! caramels :)
ReplyDeleteI love sea salt caramels!! :) So glad you found your unicorn!
ReplyDeleteooooh how exciting!!!! that saddle is beautiful - and sounds perfect for you and Connor :)
ReplyDeleteHow much are your caramels I may very well order some! :D
ReplyDeleteHow exciting!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finding a saddle! That's so exciting! This is kind of random, but I've been searching for a cooler and some searches on the Centaur Turbo Dry brought me to your blog. Do you still use this cooler, and do you still like it? I heard it didn't attract horse hair quite as much as others - do you think so? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny! Yes, I've had it for almost two years and use it every ride in the winter. I really like it. The outer side of it is kind of shiny, and doesn't attract horse hair very much at all. It's easy to brush off if it does get on there. It lives in our wash rack on a hook and still looks nice enough to bring to shows. The underside is more like polar fleece, but it's the underside so it doesn't matter if it gets hair on it. I would definitely buy it again.
DeleteHow exciting!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome!! I'm super happy and excited for you!
ReplyDeleteYay! Congrats :)
ReplyDeleteHey! That is about the same model as my new CWD. Which I just absolutely love! Huge congrats! I think you will really enjoy it :)
ReplyDeletePlease send me caramels in exchange for money for your saddle. :)
ReplyDeleteWow I love when things come together like that!
