So, that big news I have been sitting on all this time? It's not what I thought it was going to be!
The big news was originally supposed to be: my boss is leaving his job and I am taking his position as Director of Information Technology, even though it effectively means leaving the tech side of IT (sad). I will get my MBA, walk to work each day, and move Connor to a barn in town + trailer for lessons at my current barn, hence the truck purchase.
Then I got a phone call that changed all that, and I got poached for my dream job!
The big news is now: I've accepted a position as a VMware View engineer for a company I respect and have known for five years. I was able to negotiate because they need my skillset and are having a hard time finding it. I'm going to be part working from home and part traveling after an initial stint of a lot of travel for my first project. Most of my client sites will be beyond the barn, meaning I can stop at the barn on my way home, and Connor doesn't have to move!
Aside from having just sold my awesome daily driver for a truck that gets 13MPG and now having to travel a whole lot for the next three months, I couldn't be happier. I get to stay in the technology side of technology, and Connor doesn't have to move!
I'm still in California, but expect a regular return to blogging next week. In the meantime, here are random pictures of what I've been up to this week just to accompany this wall of text:
