Dressage Saddle

Based on several things, including last night and my own ideas that Dressage is the most important phase of the event, I have come to my own conclusion that I need a Dressage saddle.  A used Dressage saddle.  In a 16" or 16.5" seat.  M/W to W.  Preferably with a short flap.  Not synthetic.  At the intersection between price and quality.

Surely that shouldn't be hard to find...?

Right?

Let the hunt begin!

  1. Check our Trumbull Mountain. They are a tack shop in VT and have excellent customer service. They have a variety of used saddles, so it wouldn't hurt to call them up!

  2. Jen, I would go with a wide tree and use a sheepskin to fill the space if needed. Comrade wears a 3X wide gullet. His back is going to change a lot so find something cheap in case you have to go bigger. I bought an expensive, for me, event saddle and Barry out grew it pretty quick. Comrade out grew his semi custom by time in arrived from England. Plus make sure it is woold stuffed, then you can find a saddle fitter to do adjustments. If you get a tracing of his withers it can help when you look for sizing. We even sent a tracing of Barry's to the saddle company because they did not believe a 13.3 Arab could be so wide. Good luck!!

  6. Good luck on the short flap part...! I'm interested to hear what brands you find with shorter flaps as I would love a dressage saddle again some day. On most of the ones I've tried, my ankles are juuusst past the bottom of the flap. Some days being short is a royal pain in the *ss!!

  7. Hi Jen. I have a 16.5 HDR paris saddle. I'm about 20 minutes from your barn. If you want to try it out to get an idea of fit for you and your horse we can work something out. It's not for sale but I had a hard time getting the right size saddle for me so wanted to help someone else out.
