Road trip!!!!!!! |
- 4 rated events at BN
- 1-2 of those rated events maxed out in height for the level
- 1 schooling event, just because
- As many schooling jumper and Dressage shows as I can get a ride to, which is probably 0.
When my trainer asked what my plans for the year were, I told her I was looking at a couple of easy BN's we hadn't been to before, which is when she said we didn't need easy, and that I should look at doing maxed out stuff later in the year. I could feel her just about to say something about that preparing us for an eventual (really eventual...) move up to Novice, but she stopped herself. That's something we need to keep in the back of our minds, but not discuss until he's quietly going around a BN course.
The following events are on the barn's calendar as "possible". We won't go to all of them, but I'd love to know if any of you are planning on being at these events!
May 1-3: Penny Oaks Horse Trials (Hoosier Horse Park, Edinburgh, IN)
Penny Oaks 2014, Starter |
June 19-21: Midsouth (Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, KY)
June 19-21: Fox River Valley Pony Club Horse Trials (Barrington Hills Saddle Club, Barrington, IL)
August 7-8: Otter Creek Horse Trials (Somewhere in Wisconsin) (This one would be awesome, because it's in Mary's territory and she will be there with her CWD booth.)
August 20-23: Richland Horse Trials (Somewhere in Michigan) (I can't go to this if Nicole qualifies for the CrossFit Games again)
And let's be honest, I would totally choose being alone in a room with Rich Froning and Nicole again over going to Richland... |
September 11-13: Flying Cross Horse Trials (Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, KY)
September 25-27: Jump Start Horse Trials (Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, KY)
This one was just fun, and I was so happy to be able to stay on the grounds with my parents in their RV! |
October 22-25: Hagyard Midsouth Three-day Event & Team Challenge (Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, KY)
Any excuse to show at the KHP... |
We've never done this one before, but my trainer suggested it as a good maxed out end to our season.
Midwestern eventers, any plans to attend any of these?
So jealous you regularly get to go to Kentucky Horse Park!
ReplyDeleteCan you believe I had never even visited before last year? Not sure what I was thinking!
DeleteI may be at Otter Creek! It's in Wheeler, WI :) I'm a Minnesotan so it's one of the two trials within 3ish hours of me. I'm definitely planning on the spring trial, and hopefully I'll have the funds for the summer trial, as well.
ReplyDeleteAhhh okay that one definitely just moved up my list. We should meet up if you do!
DeleteYes please! If I don't make it to that one I may drive out with a camera anyways to paparazzi :) I will say that I love our newer trial, Roebke's Run even more... if it ever comes up as an option (Hector, MN) I 110% recommend as well - great food, the owners are super nice and the whole venue is so nice for such a new trial.
DeleteI'd love to make it there, but it's 700 miles/probably 12 or 13 hours with the trailer. It's not that we wouldn't haul that far if we had to, but we have so many events within 5 hours of us that it's not likely to happen. Darn! Hope you can make it to Otter Creek!
Deleteahhh super exciting!! something about looking at all the possibilities of a summer show schedule is really motivating (esp when i look out the window and see it's snowing here, boo!). fingers crossed that things pan out the way you want (esp regarding getting to some jumpers/dressage shows)
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly how I feel. I have to keep my eyes on the season right now in order to stay motivated.
DeleteI highly recommend Otter Creek! I've never shown because I'm more focused on Dressage but I've attended and it's a great location. If you show there I'll be there to cheer you on :)
ReplyDeleteI definitely want to do it! Sounds like I'd meet a couple of bloggers I've never met before, which is always fun. Plus, Mary!
DeleteSounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteI think so, I hope so!
DeleteI'll come cheer you guys on at the KY events! Flying Cross is right down the road from me!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! A wedding kept me from that one last year, but not this year!
DeleteWe'll I'm
ReplyDeleteHeading down to Midsouth! So that would be cool to see you there!
Oh yeah! That would be totally cool to meet you. I really do want to do that one. He was too green at BN this year to do it, but next year should be fine.
DeleteI will not be at any of these but I just wanted to say that, having grown up in MN, I have ALWAYS wanted to go to Otter Creek. I hear it's an absolutely wonderful event. I hope you can go and tell me all about it!
ReplyDeleteI will! I have heard good things too, it's just quite a haul for us at 7 or 8 hours I believe. But it would be worth it for several reasons.
DeleteHope you are able to do it all!
ReplyDeleteWell, not ALL of them, I'd be broke :). But several!
DeleteMidsouth is one of my favorite events!!! I went for many years when I lived in TN.
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I've never been, but always hear good things about it. I'm kind of a cold weather weenie, not sure I want to show in late October though...
DeleteI won't be at any obviously but will enjoy reading about your showing :)
ReplyDeleteCan I pay you to be my personal professional photographer for an entire show, because I am like 75% serious about that. And of course it would be one of the KHP shows.
DeleteWow I wish 5 hours counted as far here, we have one event that close, everything else is further
ReplyDeleteWe really are lucky, I know that. People don't believe me when I tell them that Indiana/Ohio/Kentucky has a lot going for it eventing-wise. I've looked into other areas when we were thinking about moving, which was when I first realized I was taking for granted the trainers and events here. It's a good area.
DeleteSo many fun options. Hope you get to as many as you can and have a blast. ☺☺☺
ReplyDeleteNot being able to show myself.i love vicariously through the blogosphere
That's so sad! I will make you feel as if you are here!
DeleteWait what was this about hanging out with Rich Froning???
ReplyDeleteObviously won't be making it that far North with the ponies but there is a very small chance I might end up going to watch the CF games this year.
When I went to the CrossFit Games last summer with Nicole, she gave me her Coach's Pass, so I got to go everywhere with her. When she was in makeup for her promo video shoot, the only people in the room were the makeup artist, me, Nicole and Rich Froning. Kinda cool! Fingers supremely crossed that she makes it again this year, no guarantees, we should meet up out there if she does!
DeleteFor sure!
