You know those Facebook contests Dover is always having? I usually enter them all on principal. It takes seconds to enter with autofill, and I figure, statistically, I have to win sometime if I enter enough of them, right?
It worked! |
I won a Shires Stormcheeta combo blanket ($251.99, Dover Saddlery). I'm going to give it a little time before I give it a proper review (but not much - it has 400g of fill, so I basically am only using it under 25 degrees.)
I have to say though, so far I'm pretty impressed. It definitely seems to be more well-made than my Smartpak Ultimate blankets (although the 10 year warranty means I don't really care). Shires blankets do generally tend to make Connor look like a Dachshund:
But this one isn't too bad.
Anyone else have a Shires blanket? Thoughts?

No opinion on the blanket, but congrats on winning the contest!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!! I won one of their contests (got some breeches!) on my birthday last year and it was super fun. A good friend of mine has a horse who is a blanket-destroyer, and the Shires blankets are the only things that stand up to him! I was really impressed with the quality. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI've never used that blanket brand, but congratulations on winning the contest! I enter about every contest I see using autofill too lol.
ReplyDeleteI have a Shires lightweight that I really like.
ReplyDeleteWait, you actually WON something from a Dover contest?! They never post winners so I was pretty suspicious of anyone ever actually winning anything...
ReplyDeleteHonest to goodness won it! Got an email from a Dover rep with "CONGRATULATIONS!" as the subject line and thought it was spam, but it was legit.
DeleteNo shires stuff for me. Congrats on winning though!
ReplyDeleteBeggars, choosers etc. I'm actually very surprised by how good the quality is on this one. Going to be an interesting blog post for sure.
DeleteLooks like it fits him well, esp the neck piece. I tried a Schneider hood on Ffergie and it was too long. Others brands that work on Connor for hoods?
ReplyDeleteThis one is actually too long. I'll post some other pictures of it later this week, it has elastic around the front of the hood and his ears keep getting stuck under it. This one didn't fit, I HATE the SmartPak hoods, they are poorly designed in general and also don't fit well. The only hood I've liked so far on him is the Horseware Amigo hood.
DeleteThanks Jen!
DeleteWow...just wow. This is awesome! Free blanket! And thank you so much for posting. I've always wondered if those Dover giveaways were legit.
ReplyDeleteNice!
ReplyDeleteWay to go! Apparently Shires blankets are only made for Shires, lol. My friend actually has one for her QH and it fits her pretty well. They seem to be really well made!
ReplyDeleteReally cool win!
ReplyDeleteLaughing out loud at his ears getting stuck under it ;)
Awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a Shires blanket and I also didn't know if anyone ever actually won those contests. That's good to know. :)
