Blogger Comment Email Fix How-To

Hey all, quick post today about Blogger comments and why I haven't been replying to your comments on my blog!

Thanks to GDPR, Google had to get explicit permission from anyone receiving email from the Blogger platform that they wanted to be receiving that email.  That included blog authors who "subscribed" long ago to getting emails from all of their comments, like me and probably a lot of you.

They were supposed to have sent out an email after GDPR went into effect in May asking us if we wanted to continue to receive our comment emails.  I didn't get that email, and stopped receiving notifications of your comments - which is why I haven't been replying to any of you!

Bottom line is, the fix for this is:

1. In Blogger, click "Settings" on the left

2. Click "Email"

3. In the "Comment Notification Email" section, click "Remove" underneath the big white box with your email address in it

4. Click "Save Settings" in the upper right corner to commit that change to your blog.  Do not just remove it and re-add it without saving in between.

5. Back in the same Email Settings area, click "Add" next to "Comment Notification Email".  Enter your email address and click "Save Settings" again

6. You will almost immediately get an email from Google at the email address you specified.  You must go into that email and click "Subscribe" in order to start receiving comments.  If you do not click "Subscribe" in that email, all the previous steps are for nothing because you still won't receive comments.  (I am making that stupendously clear because judging by the Google Groups message board post on this subject, that step has tripped some people up.)
