Last night, knowing Disco comes home tonight, I looked at my tack locker with new eyes. Suddenly I thought, I'm going to be USING this again. I haven't really thought like that since 2021.
I am still quite proud of building this locker myself. A decade ago. Sheesh. |
I mean, why was a giant bathing bag taking up half my locker after I went to all the trouble to hang wash rack baskets for each of us in September? Why do I insist I can't possibly throw a pair of gloves out even after I've replaced them? Why am I hanging onto the printed sheet of "If I get COVID, here's everything you need to know about Connor" from when we were still a full-care barn in 2020?
Now what do I do with all this space... |
I mean, the answer to those questions is that I have been seeing my locker, but not really seeing it for a long time now. For the last few years, it's been nothing more than a place to grab a hoof pick. So the fact that I suddenly want it efficient and perfect again says a lot about where I am mentally as Disco comes home.
Disco's last family photo with his incredible lessee and her husband a few days ago |
And on that subject - wish us luck. We are doing the usual Windsor Stables nearby Walmart parking lot commercial shipper handoff sometime tonight, likely in a heavy rain, which is not ideal. I have no doubt Disco will be a good boy, but couldn't we have just prolonged this drought one more night?

See you soon, buddy.
Looking deceptively small at the layover facility |
So exciting to have him coming home!!! I can't wait to read about his adventures.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I have a feeling I'll be blogging a lot more now.
DeleteThis is so exciting! Enjoy Disco's homecoming! I first started reading your blob when you built that tack cabinet. Has it really been a decade?!? Wow.
ReplyDeleteWow is right! I started that tack locker in 2012ish, then finished it in 2014, so yeah, a decade. Wild.
DeleteI'm so excited for you!!!
ReplyDeleteHe’s looking wonderful
